HOT ! Vintage Persian Qashqai Kilim

The Qashqai are a nomadic tribe from the Fars Province of southwestern Iran, migrating twice a year across the Zagros Mountains between highland summer pastures and lowland winter grazing grounds. They have a saying: \"Where I am is my carpet. Where my carpet and I am is my home.\" For a people who travelled hundreds of kilometres each year, the kilim wasn\'t décor. It was home, carried on their backs between worlds.

The kilim is the most nomadic of all textiles. Lightweight, flat-woven, and fully reversible, it was built to be rolled up, packed onto a horse and unpacked at the next camp. The Qashqai have been making them this way for centuries, and the craft has never left the hands of the women who carry it.

This kilim is hand-woven from hand-spun wool, sourced from the tribe\'s own sheep grazing the richest pasture routes in the Zagros Mountains. The wool is naturally lanolin-rich with a softness and sheen that only deepens with age. The geometric designs are bold and tribal, worked entirely from memory, which means no two kilims carry exactly the same interpretation. As a vintage piece, the colours have already mellowed and the wool has settled into itself.
